Stile Antico record highlights from the Tudor Church Music edition – hear an excerpt!

Early music vocal ensemble Stile Antico have teamed up with the Carnegie UK Trust, which this year marks its 100th anniversary, to record ‘The Phoenix Rising’. The disc of works by John Taverner, Thomas Tallis, Orlando Gibbons, Thomas Morley, Robert White and William Byrd celebrates the inauguration of Tudor Church Music in 1922 - a ten-volume edition of works by Tudor composers, collated and edited by the Trust, which had languished unperformed for centuries.
The album was recorded at St-Jude-on-the-Hill in London's Hampstead Garden Suburb in November 2012 for Harmonia Mundi USA. The recording engineer and editor was Brad Michel and the producer was Robina Young.
At the heart of the album is Byrd’s five-part Mass, which will also form part of a celebratory tour, taking place during August, September and November in Northern Ireland, Scotland, England, Wales and the Republic of Ireland.
